EXPRESSIVE READING:
The goal is to bring the lazy ape to life through expressive reading. Our humorous script encourages laughter. Players strive to provide an expressive reading and some silly ape sounds as the voice-over for the cartoon. Players are encouraged to rehearse the script until it sounds smooth.

PHONICS:
This script emphasizes the long "a" vowel sound. Readers will become familiar with multiple spellings of the long "a" sound, including: a_e (ape), ay (play), a (lazy), and ea (great). This phonics training typically follows some training in short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds with a single spelling, such as a_e (ape and lake).

New drawing activities are unlocked following the reading activities so kids are encouraged to read the script each time they enter.

FUN:
Reading is a complex process. We strive to make the process fun. For timid players, provide guidance as a role-model, while the young reader watches. For example, parents or teachers can perform the reading, while the child adds the ape sounds on cue.

Hollywood Groove (HG) voice-over adventures follow the reading fluency guidelines provided by the National Reading Panel. The HG team members are winners of a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Dept. of Education.
